  1. It’s absolutely true that black cats and dogs are some of the last to get adopted JUST BECAUSE THEY’RE BLACK! This has nothing to do with humans!

    1. I do totally agree with ACH369 ! I had a black dog and he was the nicest you could imagine, but I was threatened of being expelled from my rent apartment if I didn’t get rid of him, without any other reason than that he was “frightening people” ! If you know what a French griffon is, you can’t imagine such a dog being an absolute terror weapon. Of course, I didn’t accept the deal and in my turn threatened to call for a judgment if things went further. I heard nothing anymore after that but you can easily figure out the “smart” atmosphere we’re in. My dog died aged 14, and I keep the memory of his tenderness for ever. By now I have a white Italian water dog and those who feared the black griffon are all fair towards my dog (and me lol !) who is exactly as nice as my previous black dog. Surprisingly a neighbor with a brown and white dog never was annoyed the way I had been. Thus I am sure of one thing : the “black dog syndrome” is a reality. It has nothing to do with humans but with the ancient fears linked to dark animals (see the raven linked to death, the black cat to sorcery, or the bat, etc) Though we are said to be living in a modern and rational world, ancient fears still remain, as a kind of archetype of fear. A lack of education ? Probably, but not only. It’s a pity to learn that many children are still taught by their parents to mistrust black animals, whereas they would let them come closer to white or fair animals. They had better teach them how to behave with animals in an appropriate gentle way. This is done in some schools but should be done everywhere.
